I went gluten free on the way to the beach. I had been sick for awhile. And by awhile, I mean about 3 years. It was constant sickness and a lot of vomiting. In fact, the night before this camping trip, I was up all night throwing up. Luckily, I knew it wasn’t the flu since I had been dealing with it for awhile, so we still went camping, I just didn’t eat much…
The doctor took out my gallbladder saying that was the problem. And it didn’t fix it. So the GI doctor suggested a blood test and a scope to see if I had Celiac. I didn’t want to deal with that, and it sounded expensive. So I decided to just try not eating it to see what happened.
I spent our car ride to Hilton Head researching gluten. I was so glad to have a smart phone to do this with. I spent the trip eating a lot of chicken and rice, and not the stuff everyone else was eating. But I kept thinking that if this is what it took to feel better, I was going to do it.
I saw almost immediate differences. Headaches? Gone! Hiccups? Gone! Bloated feeling all the time? Gone! Leg cramps every night? Gone! Vomiting? Gone! Heart burn? Gone! Thyroid levels? Getting better! The biggest thing? I went off gluten in May and was pregnant by September! That was a shock. We had been trying for over 2 years and were at the point where we accepted we would be a one kid family 🙂
It has taken a lot of getting used to and it’s not always easy, There was some hiccups along the way. Using process of elimination, I figured out another ingredient I have to stay away from- xanthan gum. Unfortunately it;s in a lot of gluten free foods. I have to read a lot of labels.
